Liam Andrew
Technology, product, and AI leadership for mission-driven teams
About Me
I help local newsrooms and nonprofits use technology and AI to better serve their communities. I’m the Technology Lead for the American Journalism Project’s Product & AI Studio, where I build tools and advise on strategy across dozens of partner organizations.
Previously, as Chief Product Officer at The Texas Tribune, I led cross-disciplinary teams in engineering, design, product, analytics, and IT. Earlier work spans startups and research labs, developing content systems, recommendation engines, and early-stage products.
I research, write, and speak about practical uses of AI in public-interest tech, grounded in a background in comparative media studies (M.S., MIT) and interdisciplinary humanities (B.A., Yale).
What I Do
- Build software—from rapid prototypes to production applications.
- Lead teams of engineers, designers, product managers, and analysts.
- Advise on AI strategy, product development, and organizational practice.
- Facilitate workshops and hackathons; present at conferences.
- Write about technology, AI, and public-interest tech.
- Mentor emerging technologists and product leaders.
I’m open to contract engagements—speaking, writing, workshops, tool development, and advisory work at the intersection of AI and the civic/nonprofit space.
